EU's new Internet law: article 11 and 13

h bergstrom95 6 years ago updated by World of Potter 6 years ago 2

With the EU voting through the new internet law; article 11 and 13, how will that affect the WoP-sites?

Article 11: a strict copyright law that will hand out taxes for sharing news-articles, wiki pages etc that you are not the owner of. A real problem for a fandom-site since the fandom does not own the copyright of the designated world and also takes payment in form of VIP.

Article 13: a strict copyright law that requires that all websites uses a filter so that no copyrighted material can be shared (or remixed) on that website, meaning profile pictures, memes, gif's, PT/BS-codes etc. will get removed due to copyright.

How will this affect the WoP-sites?

We will not do anything for now. The law has not been passed yet, but only voted to move forward.

They will vote again end of year or start of 2019.

Portugal WoP (.pt)

Christophe Domingos 6 years ago updated by Maia Blackburn 6 years ago 9

PT WoP:

I truly believe having a Portugal WoP would be very well received by all Portuguese fans. The Portuguese are able to speak and write in several languages but we would appreciate the exclusivity for once (Portugal are often confused with Spain - the language is totally different and we cannot play WoP.es). We are a very faithful community and if we have a Portuguese domain we will be extremely responsible and careful for the community to grow continuously.

Other reasons to open a Portuguese Domain:

  • We will have much more users if we can communicate in our language;
  • We have the advantage that our language is similar to the Portuguese from Brazil language. We can have thousands of users playing at any time for sure;
  • Portugal inspired J.K. Rowling in creating her magical realm (She lived in Portugal):

"1st -  While living in Porto, Rowling was a frequent patron of the Cafe Majestic, where she reportedly worked on the first book in the series;

2nd - Not only do Potterheads believe that Livraria Lello inspired Flourish and Blotts, Diagon Alley’s premium bookstore, but that the incredible staircase gave rise to the elaborate Grand Staircase at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry;

3rd - There’s no denying the aesthetic similarities between the magical brooms in “Harry Potter” and the offerings at Escovaria de Belomonte (Brush of Belomonte). The brush store’s brooms, made by hand using high-quality woods and natural fibers, have a rustic look devoid of dyes or synthetic materials—just like the primitive-looking brooms in the series;

4th - Young witches and wizards at Hogwarts abided by a strict dress code, which called for a white button-down shirt, a tie (with one’s house colors), a sweater, dark trousers or skirt, and a full-length cape. You’ll find students in a near-identical uniform of a black suit, tie, and cape at the Universidade de Coimbra (Coimbra University— the oldest continuously operated university in the world;

5th - Rowling may have named the house founder after one of Portugal’s most notorious rulers, António de Oliveira Salazar. As prime minister from 1932 to 1968, he led a dictatorship that crushed any opposition with a secret police force and strict censorship.;

6th - Potterheads will remember with a sniffle one of the most heartbreaking moments in the series: when Severus Snape blasts Albus Dumbledore with a fatal curse at the top of the Astronomy Tower, the highest point at Hogwarts, sending the beloved headmaster plummeting hundreds of feet to the ground. Many claim that the tower was inspired by the Torre dos Clerigos (Clerigos Tower), which stands at the top of an 18th-century church and serves as one of the most recognizable landmarks in the city. Climbing 225 steps affords visitors a dizzying, 360-degree view of the city—just like the panoramic vistas offered by the Astronomy Tower;

7th - Potter and his comrades spent a lot of time at Hogwarts Library, studying for their OWL exams and uncovering magical secrets. Keen observers have noted many similarities between this library and Biblioteca Joanina (Joanina Library) at Universidade de Coimbra (Coimbra University). Both facilities comprise multiple floors, soaring ceilings, large arched windows, wood accents and tens of thousands of books;"

I, and certainly any Portuguese, will be pleased to help building the website.

We can be a small country but full of magic.

Best regards,

Christophe Domingos.

Pet-mark in the Profile

Nina Schwartz 6 years ago updated by World of Potter 4 years ago 3

It would be great, if you could see, if a user has a pet and don't have to visit the profile to check it. Just a litte notification symbol in the "Short profile" which appears, when you hover with your mouse over the profilpicture or name of the user.

Addition of Red Pandas in the Magical Menagerie

Adalynn Greenwood 6 years ago updated by Kayte / Angela 6 years ago 2

Just me wanting my favorite animal in the shop so I can buy a lot of them. They're rather exotic and not available as household pets in the real world so they would be semi-expensive to expensive on the site.

On another note, they're basically cats in a way and they would be fun to have. Also they're cute, I mean just look at him

Specific forum for complaints and/or heated discussions

borjalyokox 6 years ago 0

Greetings. Recently there have  been some problems in the spanish community of WoP and people have been trying to argue about it through the chat, and I understand that's no place to do it since many staff members have been warning the users to stop talking about that in the chat, but they have been ignored since, according to the users: ''These topics concern us all and should be discussed publicly rather than by private messages (Owls)''. Many users like me don't want to be involved in such problematic conversations and feel like they're interrupting the correct functioning of the website.

That's why my suggestion is to create a specific forum in the web for complaints, heated discussions, and all those things that, although they shouldn't be discussed in the chat, concern all the community.

Kind regards, Aidan Bathory.

Keep chat closed

Jelina Emilia Hansen 6 years ago updated by Jada Nightflame 6 years ago 1

It would be nice if we could have chat permanent closed, also when you log out and in again. Idc about the sound, but it would be nice if you could choose to have it closed at all times. Maybe put it in the settings?

Notification when punished for grading

Squirrel Jo 6 years ago updated by World of Potter 6 years ago 2

I think it'd be useful if we receive a notification when we get punished for bad grading... so if we receive too many notifications in a row, we know we should be more careful X)

(also because when we grade a lot, the "graded homework" page takes ages to load, so notifs would be an easier way to be warned)

Mobile chat message bar keeps staying hidden by menus at bootom of screen, makes this difficult to use.
