Higher pay for jobs

Adalynn Greenwood 6 years ago updated by Glinda Rose 5 years ago 9

As of right now students get paid 20 Galleons and adults get 45 Galleons each week for having a job. Honestly it's a very low rate and there's almost nothing you can do with such a little amount of money even if you put it in Gringotts for rates.

I really do think it should get a little boost so it's worthwhile to have a job. I can earn 20 Galleons by grading four pieces of homework. If I'm lucky and they're short it takes less than 10 minutes to do so. I know some jobs may take more time than others but I spend about 30-60 minutes a week to write an article + Quidditch at the moment (Which also takes time quite a while). If anything, students should get 50/75 and adults 100/150 for having a job.

Salaries are being discussed internally all the time, they might or might not change in the future, but are revised all the time, so closing this.

Grading exam to earn the right to grade (to ensure quality grading and prevent complaints)

Marlies Storm 6 years ago updated by Tenebrent Salven 4 years ago 17 1 duplicate

Introduction

Too many complaints arrive about homework being graded wrongly. People grade wrongly now because they haven't read the rules. Short homeworks get "good" or  "acceptable" despite meeting all requirements and stating their sources. Plagiarism is missed because sources aren't checked, or because the sources weren't stated. Long homeworks automatically get an Outstanding without even having been read. We've got to do something about this, and the solution to this problem is a grading exam.

This is going to save a lot of work for ATs and teachers, saving a lot of complaints about wrong grading. Students will be more satisfied with the grade they received and the amount of complaints will decrease.

The idea

When the user turns level 3, before they can grade they have to take a short grading exam. In this exam there will be 5-10 (short if possible) homework samples they have to grade. Each example will treat 1 common error, or something that is received as error but actually is none. For example:

  • One assignment in which at least one sentence has been plagiarized.
  • One assignment in which it looks plagiarized but actually isn't (closely paraphrased).
  • One assignment where there has been plagiarized but doesn't state the source it's plagiarized from.
  • One assignment that is very short, 1-2 sentences, but answers all requirements and so deserves an Outstanding.
  • One assignment that is quite long but doesn't meet all requirements.

And more such relevant situations. 5-10 questions, about 60-80% needs to be correct. Not all questions need to be answered correctly, because the main idea is that people have considered these situations and know how to deal with most of them. Even just having thought about it is going to help the grading system greatly.

If this idea is going to be taken up, I know I am willing to help out with the questions if needed and I know a lot of ATs and teachers are.

Leave a club

Jenna Armstrong 7 years ago updated by Kayte / Angela 6 years ago 4 2 duplicates

Yesterday, the user clubs were introduced. A neat (albeit a bit chaotic) idea, but since it appears to be pretty difficult to leave a user club once you're in it, or the manager of the club doesn't want to remove you, I think it should be possibly to leave a club. Maybe it could be like the 'end friendship' button? When you go to the members page of the club, you will see a red X beneath your name where you can terminate your membership of the club.

Forbidden Section for the Library

Marlene Harris 6 years ago updated by Kayte / Angela 6 years ago 10 1 duplicate

It would be so great, if we can realise this!

How about a seperate 'library' which can only be opened by fifth grade students and adults?

We could write books espacially for this. Dark Arts books for example. The library Team on DE has tons of ideas for books in this section.

This is an idea from the spanish library leader and from the german library leader. What do you think about it?

Greets,

Marlene Harris (Library Leader DE)

Send gifts to multiple people at once

Jada Nightflame 7 years ago updated by World of Potter 6 years ago 11

This would make especially the Head of House's work so much easier. Sometimes, you have to send 5 of the same gifts, and it can take ages. But it's also handy when you want to treat your friends to something. So with this idea, you could enter multiple names in the receiver field (just like with owls), add your message, and then a gift would get sent to all of the receivers, with the same message. And if you add for example 2 people, and change the gift amount to 5, they would each receive 5 gifts. So then you give out 10 gifts at once

Weekly/monthly poll

Rodrik 7 years ago updated by Tenebrent Salven 4 years ago 5

My idea is that we have a weekly or monthly pole on each site, where users can vote on it then at the end of the week or month the results are show of what place each option came, and the percentage voted for them! It would be a fun interactive touch to WoP seeing what the community would vote for, This is an example below.

Many thanks for taking the time to read! :D

A 'Deposit All'-button for the Gringotts Bank

Angela Day 7 years ago updated by World of Potter 3 years ago 7 2 duplicates

So, it's fabulous that Gringotts is up and running!

I do, however, already wish for a 'Deposit All'-button, as it's just way easier than to write out the exact amount of Galleons, Sickles and Knuts. Likewise, there could be a 'Withdraw All'-button too.

Possible Class- Ancient Studies

Chloe Lovegood 7 years ago updated by Kayte / Angela 5 years ago 10

Ancient Studies

Though we are given the option to know about the legends and tales which created the magical world, there is not yet a class exploring the in depth creation of magical branches itself. In the extended Harry Potter Universe, Ancient Studies was offered as an Extra Curriculum Course found on the sixth floor of the Hogwarts Castle allowing students to delve into the Ancient Magic of all countries around the world. The class itself is not compulsory to pass into the next year but allows a user to add another skill under their belt and gain more house-points/money. It would be an option for Some of the Magic could include the following:

  • Ancient Egyptian Spells (Looking into written magic and the magic of Pharos themselves
  • Druid Magick and it's routes in England
  • African Witchcraft

Though there is not a full course given for the subject on Harry Potter Wikia (http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Ancient_Studies), it would be teachable as there are many sources out there about historical Magic workings.

Benefits of this Course:

  • Allows a student to understand the Origins of modern day magic
  • Creates a wide range of courses available to a user
  • Allows for a diverse and imaginative course
  • Gives a user more freedom of course choice as it is not compulsory!

I for one would love to take this course! It offers such an insight into all kinds of magic and would teach the very origins or magic itself- back to Egyptian Gods and Druid Races! It could be an excellent idea for the foreseeable future. Though it is to do with Ancient Magic, and therefore history, it is more of a separate subject as it incorporates the use of this magic and would need it's own personal course layout!

Magical Blessings and Happy Hogwarts!

World of Potter Australia (WoP AU)

Saffie Leabrook 6 years ago updated by Vita Auden 3 years ago 35

Hello hello!

Prepare for this to be lengthy, I've fostered passionate opinions about it for a while, hehe. So, I believe it may have been mentioned in the past, but I am here writing this because I have an avid belief in the possibility for a World of Potter site to take off in Australia. How does World of Potter AU sound? xD

Yes, it would be another English site, to add to those that are pre-existing. However, the Harry Potter Australian fanbase is huge and extensive, something I can easily vouch for, and seeing advertisements for WoP even all the way down in the bottom of Australia is what brought me to these sites almost a year ago now. Australia might seem small and very far away from Europe, but there is almost 25 million people – more than some of the WoP sites that already exist!

Many Australians I know, including ones I met in real life, have started accounts on various World of Potter sites only to be deterred by the fact that they are built for other countries, not “for them”, with drastically different timezones. While many users sleep, we are awake and active; when we sleep, the sites all hit their peaks. I am an incredibly active user on various sites that operate with EU timezones and I adore the communities there, but it took a lot of time and effort for me to become an integral part of them. There have been sleepless nights on my part, in which I have stayed up until five in the morning, or woken up at three in the morning and gone to work afterwards, in order to play the games of Quidditch that are at terribly late hours. Not to mention that it can be very difficult for me when I don’t encounter my friends from the site for days on end due to the time differences which have them working while I sleep, and going to bed when my alarm goes off in the morning. We also have a very different currency which undeniably has an effect upon the purchasing of VIP.

The WoP community definitely has room to grow in Australia and reach and attract a much wider range of fans who can finally be part of a site which caters to them. I am committed to finding people to back this (starting a poll if necessary), assisting with funding, and being part of this site’s growth and development. There are actually several people who I have discussed this with in the past, for months now, who have already told me that they would be happy to be part of the site’s staff, regardless of where they’re from.

Some key benefits of World of Potter AU include:

  • A more comfortable, “homely” environment for Australians to connect to people who share their country, states, cities and even understand their general culture, which can be much more different than people realise;

  • Fewer language barriers, and greater ease of communication;

  • Pricing for VIP converted to Australian dollars, representing an accurate cost while simultaneously increasing the likelihood that Australians will buy from a currency that they know and trust;

  • Attracting many more Australians who have previously been deterred by sites which are specifically for Europeans, Americans or the British, but don’t include them;

  • Games of Quidditch at reasonable hours that we can participate in and attend, without having to sacrifice any reasonable sleeping schedule;

  • A community of likeminded RPers, and the possibility for a tight-knit WoP presence ‘down under’;

  • Peak time of the sites, and therefore more user activity, occurring at a sensible hour rather than very late into the night; and

  • The existence of a domain such as www.worldofpotter.au, making it far easier for users from Australia to find the website and join (fun fact: when I first searched World of Potter, I actually spent over half an hour searching for an AU domain before I eventually joined EU!).

Hopefully it’s something you at least give some consideration to. Thank you for your time!

Love,

Saffie
