Usually, it would last for 1 hour. 60 minutes.

However, time on the site was broken for a few days, which meant that you didn't change back after the usual hour. I believe this has been fixed now though ^.^ you just got unfortunate!

With the starting money, you already have enough to afford everything you need for all of the classes. And even if you spend a load of your money on other things, like food, you still have enough to start some classes and submit homework for money.

Perhaps there could be some way to still make this work?

If, for example, there were some feature in place that prevented you from sending galleons to your own IP Address. This would stop people from abusing the system, but would still allow us to help out our friends.

I was just about to suggest the same thing before I noticed this! It would be suuuper helpful in so many ways, especially when you're buying a lot of things at once. If you've created a new character and need to buy all the class requirements again, it can be really annoying to have to keep buying things one at a time, especially the books, which there's usually like 11 of. So I think this could make life so much easier, and it should definitely be implemented :D
